On the ground floor of an office building opposite the Substation and Peranakan Museum lies this little cafe called 7 KICKstart BREWiches (don’t ask me what’s with their name, cos I’ve got no inkling either). According to what I gathered from their Facebook page, the owner, Swee Sim, is apparently a coffee junkie who opened the cafe in hopes of starting a coffee revolution in Singapore. In other words, the cafe was set up to unite coffee lovers.

SG Boy was in dire need of a post-lunch caffeine fix one day and so we decided to check this place out. As expected, the first thing that greeted us when we opened the door was the fragrant aroma of coffee beans. Unfortunately (or fortunately) for us, we were the only patrons there and it felt as though we had accidentally trespassed someone’s home by mistake because the place seemed so homely. Thankfully, despite being in the midst of lunch & conversation, the staff broke the ice and showered us with a warm welcome. They invited us to make ourselves at home and so we (shamelessly) plopped ourselves down on a comfortable couch.

Because coffee is their specialty, a huge part of the wall is dedicated to their coffee menu. Other items on their menu include mains and light bites like burgers and sandwiches. The bad news for those with a sweet tooth is that they don’t serve pastries/desserts.

Mocha Latte ($4.50)

It’s a pity that I’m more of a tea lover than a coffee connoiseur, but I must say that the Mocha Latte smelt really good and SG Boy enjoyed it thoroughly. According to him, the coffee taste was sufficiently gao (thick) even though the drink also contained chocolate and milk. Definitely way better (and cheaper) than Starbucks!

Apple, Beetroot & Carrot (ABC) Juice ($3.50)

A problem with most cafes is that they often serve overpriced fruit juice. Most charge around $5-6 for a ridiculously small cup of freshly pressed juice, while others simply serve bottled juices at exorbitant prices. Thankfully, this wasn’t the case at 7KICKstart BREWiches. Priced at $3.50 for a huge cup, their ABC Juice is extremely value-for-money.

Perhaps coffee connoiseurs would also be delighted to learn that freshly roasted coffee beans are available for sale at the cafe.

If you’re a coffee lover, visiting this place is a MUST! Even if you’re not a coffee fan, do pop by to check out their reasonably-priced food and drinks. With that, we spent our afternoon there inhaling the aroma from the roasted coffee beans and working away on our laptops. Do note, however, that wi-fi isn’t available in the cafe so it might not be the most ideal place for those who need to work with Internet.
